Mehri Advances Rooney Rule with English Soccer Leagues
Mehri & Skalet is making a splash across the pond this week, where Cyrus Mehri had what the Daily Telegraph called a “historic meeting” on the fate of minority coaches in English soccer.
Mehri met Tuesday with senior executives from the Football Association, English Premier League, Football League and League Managers’ Association, as well as former soccer players and minority rights activists, to discuss how England’s most popular sport can adopt the US’ Rooney Rule, which requires National Football League teams to interview at least one minority candidate for any open managerial positions. Brokered by Mehri & Skalet in 2003, the rule has quadrupled the number of black coaches in American football. And with Mehri & Skalet’s help, English soccer hopes to achieve the same.
